Fitness Apparel on a Budget: The Best Budget Gym Wear

budget gym wear

Everyone wants to look cute and feel good when they go to the gym. After all, feeling confident in your gym outfit can help boost your workout motivation and help you get to the gym on days you might not feel like it. In this post, we will discuss my favorite budget gym wear so that you can update your workout wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Fila

Fila creates some of my favorite gym clothes and outfits for my personal training career. I have purchased gym shorts, running shorts, tops, sweatshirts and leggings from this popular fitness brand. The clothes are well made and built to last. Even more importantly, Fila garments are reasonably priced for smaller budgets. Additionally, this brand is often available at discount stores like Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Burlington Coat Factory, where prices are heavily discounted. I am still wearing Fila gym shorts from 2015 and my heavy powerlifting workouts!

Danskin

Originally a dance outfitter, Danskin also offers cute sweatshirts, shorts, leggings and gym skorts. I have purchased several of their sweatshirts which I often wear in my job as a personal trainer. Just like Fila, Danskin products are often sold at discount stores like Marshalls and TJ Maxx at super affordable prices. Hoodies usually run around $12-20 dollars a piece and with good handling and line drying, can last several years.

RBX Active

RBX active sells leggings, shorts, running shorts, tops and hoodies and sweatshirts at many popular discount stores (TJ Maxx, Marshalls, BJs). Their leggings are super cute and often come in fun colors and patterns. A client recently picked me up a few pairs of their popular leggings for just $10 a piece. Again, with proper care, these items can last a few years.

Old Navy

This popular basic wear brand also sells some of the best priced, cutest active wear and athleisure items. They sells shorts, gym shorts, leggings, gym tops, sports bras and more at discount prices. They also have an impressive clearance section. Additionally, you can also purchase many of these items at reduced cost through their many Old Navy outlet stores!

Thrift Stores

Thrifting has become more popular in recent years and for good reasons. Personally, I have purchased many sportswear and training items at my neighborhood thrift shop or Goodwill–no one has ever been able to tell that I bought items secondhand. Honestly, sometimes secondhand goods are better quality than fast fashion at cheap big box stores. Additionally, items are heavily discounted. Finally, you will be helping to reduce the environmental impact of fast fashion and from clothes ending up in a landfill.

How to Increase the Livelihood of Budget Gym Clothes

Here are some simple tips to increase the livelihood of your budget gym wear. After all, you won’t save much money at all if you constantly have to replace your gym clothes!

Wash with Like Colors

Washing with like colors can help reduce clothing staining and colors from running, helping to prolong the life of your gym wear.

Wash Cold

Washing your gym clothes in cold water is easier on the fabrics, and also helps prevents colors from running. Additionally, washing with cold water uses less energy and is more environmentally friendly.

Line Dry

Lycra, spandex nd other fabrics commonly found in gym wear do not tolerate machine drying well. If absolutely necessary, tumble dry on low speed or for just a few minutes before line drying. Otherwise, aim to line dry all your gym clothes. Line drying is easier on all your clothes, and will increase their lifespan. It also will help you reduce your energy cost and is more environmentally friendly.
