What is a nutrition coach?
A nutrition coach is a professional who helps you to make changes to your nutrition and lifestyle.
This type of professional may provide you with guidance on your calorie intake, macronutrient intake, sample meals, meal timing and suggested foods list. A nutrition coach may also provide you with a meal plan. This type of coach listens to your goals, lifestyle and preferred foods and helps you create a sustainable nutrition plan.
What do nutrition coaches do?
To start, nutrition coaches usually provide you with a personalized evaluation. They discuss your goals, preferences and devise a nutrition plan that suits your needs.
Next, your nutrition coach will deliver you a plan. They will check in with you weekly or biweekly to update your plan and provide support.
How Does a Nutritionist Differ from a Dietician?
A nutritionist and dietician have different roles within the same field. A nutritionist primarily works with private clients who desire weight loss, muscle gain, better performance or improved body composition. A private nutritionist may have credentials from Precision Nutrition, ACE, ISSA or another certifying body. However, a nutritionist has a narrower scope and breath of practice than the typical dietician.
In contrast, a dietician is a board certified professional who has passed a licensing exam and has completed both classroom and clinic hours. While a dietician can also work with private clients, a dietician can also help clients with chronic illnesses and eating disorders. Additionally, a dietician can also help patients in a hospital or rehab center.
