Men’s USAPL Weight Classes
Here are the men’s weight classes in the USAPL.
Why did the IPF Change Weight Classes?
The IPF changed weight classes to better accommodate female lifters who are too heavy for the 63 kg class and too light for the 72 kg class.
The 69 kg class was created for women to give more opportunities for lifters who fall between the new classes.
Both classes had a ton of competitors, and this also opens up the game for more participants.
What Happens if You Don’t Make Weight in USAPL?
If you do not make weight on your first weigh in attempts in the USAPL, you have a couple of different options.
Your first option is to simply accept the weigh in and lift in the next class up. This would be most appropriate if you are not within 1 or 2 pounds of making weight.
If you are close enough to your target weight, you may choose to try to make weight again in 15-30 minutes. You can try sitting in a sauna, starting your warm up or chewing gum and spitting to make weight.
You may decide to try again if you are in a very competitive spot in a big meet. Otherwise, it is probably best to just accept the missed weigh in and get ready for your first event.
